Federal Cigarette Ignition Flammability Standard for Mattresses and Mattress Pads:
16 C.F.R Part 1632
Code 16 C.F.R Part 1632 prohibits the sale of bedding products that are not compliant with CPSC standards. These standards are commonly known as the Federal Cigarette Ignition Flammability tests.
These standards apply equally to renovated and new mattresses, that have been manufactured for sale.16 CFR Part 1632 defines “renovation” as replacing the ticking or batting of a mattress, stripping a mattress to its springs, rebuilding a mattress, or replacing the components of a mattress with new or recycled materials. The standard requires that each mattress or mattress pad subject to the standard shall bear a permanent, accessible and legible label containing the month and year of manufacture and the location of the manufacturer. Attached to every CMC product is a label that meets these requirements.
