Chicago Mattress Company has worked closely with a consulting entomologist to develop a unique manufacturing process virtually guarantying that bed bugs will not pose a threat to CMC customers. As we have learned, bed bugs (cimex lectularius), like mosquitoes, are a non-boring insect species –they cannot bore through even the thinnest material. Because every CMC mattress is completely sealed to comply with the CPSC fire-safety standards, CMC mattresses are protected from bed bugs by a seamless and impenetrable barrier.
In reality, however, it is not mattresses, but box springs that often provide a haven for these noxious and harmful pests. At CMC, every box spring is entirely encased and sealed in plastic before the final framing and upholstery process. This unique step in the manufacturing process, one that is not taken even by premium mattress manufacturers, protects CMC box springs from bed bug penetration.
Finally, to ensure that the CMC manufacturing facility is free from bed bugs, each quarter our plant is inspected by a team of bed bug sniffing dogs. A team of specially trained dogs and their handlers tour the facility after the regular work day to check and to certify that CMC is free from bed bugs or their eggs.
